ExWHUemployee: West Ham United medical already underway for Flynn Downes as transfer twist emerges

West Ham United have accelerated the deal for Flynn Downes to head to the London Stadium from Swansea City, according to ExWHUemployee.

Writing via his Patreon account on Wednesday night (6 July), the reliable Hammers insider reported that Downes, 23, has already completed part of his medical with the London club while the rest of his checks are scheduled to take place on Thursday (7 July).

It is understood that West Ham have sped up their pursuit of the Brentwood-born playmaker in order to stamp out the competition and the deal could be made official before the end of the working week.

Writing on Patreon, ExWHUemployee said: “We can confirm that such is the speed of the Downes deal that we believe he has already had part of his medical and that the club could be looking to announce the deal by the weekend with further parts of the medical booked in for tomorrow (Thursday, 7 July).

“The club have moved fast to get this done due to the competition from other clubs having got the offer accepted today (Wednesday, 6 July).

“The speed of getting this deal done is very refreshing!”

No messing about

This has all come out of nowhere, hasn’t it?

West Ham seemed to take an age to sign centre-back Nayef Aguerd from Rennes but the pace that they’ve moved at to sign Downes is a great sign.

It shows that David Moyes really wants the Swansea midfielder, who did so well in the Championship for the Welsh club last season.

Moyes’ midfield is down to the bare bones with Mark Noble retiring and Alex Kral’s loan deal coming to an end.

It was already weak prior to those two players leaving and that led to Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek playing way too many games last season.

Ultimately, the over-reliance on those two midfielders led to the Irons being worn out in their impressive Premier Leauge and Europa League campaigns.

Downes will be a good signing but he shouldn’t be the only addition to the centre of the midfield this summer so let’s hope that Moyes can continue getting deals done quickly for impressive, young players like the ex-Ipswich star.
