ExWHUemployee: West Ham have already signed Reading teenager Thierry Nevers
West Ham have signed teenage forward Thierry Nevers from Championship side Reading, according to ExWHUemployee on Twitter.
ExWHUemployee wrote on his personal Twitter profile: “I believe the club have been in talks to sign Thierry Nevers from Reading.
“The 19-year-old, who is highly rated, rejected a contract to stay at Reading and will be a free agent.
“He can play on the wing or up front and has a good record at academy level including scoring against us.”
He later followed it up and said, “I believe the deal may already be completed” while adding that Nevers is a client of Will Salthouse, an agent reportedly heavily involved in West Ham transfer plans.
Nevers is yet to feature for the Berkshire club at senior level but he scored three goals in nine Premier League 2 Division 2 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign.
Bolstering the ranks
West Ham’s Under-23s side struggled immensely in the 2020/21 season, finishing 11th, just two spots above rock-bottom Southampton.
Clearly there needs to be an injection of fresh talent into the team to aid their progress and develop their winning mentality, though that is, of course, not the most important factor at that level.
There have been some bright sparks, with Conor Coventry impressing in midfield and Ademipo Odubeko scoring 10 goals in nine outings to earn himself numerous spots on the bench of the West Ham senior side.
Despite that, however, only Southampton scored fewer goals than our tally of 32 in the top division of Premier League 2, so reinforcements are on the agenda unless someone is plucked from the Under-18s.
The likes of Declan Rice have shown that youth is no barrier to getting into the senior side so Nevers might have been attracted by the chance to impress David Moyes and test himself in the Premier League.
