ExWHUEmployee shares update on West Ham United interest in Scott McTominay

West Ham are unlikely to follow up their interest in Manchester United and Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay, after they made a verbal enquiry about his services, according to ExWHUEmployee.

The reliable West Ham source shared via his Twitter account that the enquiry showed a clear difference in the clubs’ valuations of the player, and it is unlikely that the East London club will follow up with a formal offer.

McTominay had been named as one of West Ham’s midfield targets this summer by talkSPORT on 21 June, as the club looks to replace Declan Rice, with the Hammers exploring multiple options to strengthen their squad.

West Ham stepping up their interest

West Ham are beginning to step up their interest in several midfielders in their pursuit to replace their departed captain, with moves for Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse and Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher being reported overnight on 24 July.

The Hammers reportedly made a £37m plus add-ons bid for Gallagher [Jacob Steinberg, 24 July], although it has since been rejected by Chelsea as they will demand a fee north of £40million for their academy graduate.

The club’s move for Ward-Prowse has been reported with a bid of £25million being tabled [Mike McGrath, 24 July] following Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League last season.

West Ham

Multiple reports of bids from the Hammers for midfield targets coming in at the same time show the club are pushing hard to find their Rice replacement, as well as looking to improve their squad overall.

A scattergun approach towards midfield targets will allow West Ham to progress with multiple deals at once and then make a decision on whether to sign one or more of the players, rather than making bids one at a time and being left wanting after bids are turned down.

In other West Ham news, the club have tabled an official bid for Chelsea midfielder.
