ExWHUemployee shares update on Gianluca Scamacca bid as Armando Broja edges closer to West Ham United
West Ham still have a bid in for Gianluca Scamacca despite advancing on a deal for Armando Broja to join this summer, according to ExWHUemployee.
The Hammers made a £40m bid for the Italian international last week [Alfredo Pedulla, July 15], but have now made progress on a deal to sign Chelsea ace Broja [Athletic, July 18] who has been David Moyes’ number one target all summer.
Despite that, the club haven’t withdrawn their bid for the Sassuolo striker and will evaluate whether they want to continue with a deal if and when they manage to get Broja over the line, although Ex told his Patreon that he feels the Serie A club will want more money and he was just an alternative option.

“Scamacca is someone that we did bid for,” he said. “The offer is still in for the player but my understanding is we want to get Broja done first. We want to get that deal done and then if that’s done, then we’ll evaluate the situation after that.
“I don’t believe that Scamacca is ahead of Broja in terms of the manager’s preference. I believe it was a situation where we didn’t know what Chelsea were going to do and we need to have alternative options because Moyes 100% knows he needs to get another forward in this window. He obviously had to make sure there were back up plans.
“Same with Brereton-Diaz, the Blackburn forward. He is on the radar as a potential other target should the other ones not come through. Last I heard with Scamacca was that his club wanted more money, but I haven’t asked for an update on that for today. My understanding is that it’s still the same.”
Smart
For once, it seems that the Hammers have done what fans are always asking for and that’s to have multiple options lined up rather than relying on just getting a specific deal done.

The minute it looked like Chelsea were going to be difficult on Broja, the club started putting out feelers for other potential targets and are now in a position of strength when it comes to negotiations.
West Ham know who their preferences are and won’t rush into deals for other players, but they also aren’t willing to wait around forever to get those deals done and have made selling clubs aware of that with other bids.
If Moyes sees Broja as the number one target for the summer then he is the man that the board must go for first and foremost, and if that means making a decision on other players then so be it.
For now though, nobody has arrived and West Ham still have their fingers in several pies just in case it all goes wrong.
