ExWHUemployee shares gut feeling on West Ham re-signing Jesse Lingard

ExWHUemployee does not feel as though West Ham will be able to re-sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United this summer.

Lingard, 28, was in sensational form while on loan at the London Stadium in the second half of last season.

However, while speaking on the latest episode of the West Ham Way podcast on Patreon, ExWHUemployee shared his doubts about Lingard while also sharing an update on the hunt for new centre-backs and a striker.

He said: “I think the main ones are the centre-backs, try and sign Lingard, although I’m not too optimistic on that one – there may be an alternative for him – and then [Tammy] Abraham or another striker.

“Maybe [David] Moyes believes his targets are still available.”

Still ruing that January deal

As good as that loan deal for Lingard was and as much as he played a massive role in us qualifying for Europe, not tying in an option to buy clause turns out to be a horrible decision by West Ham.

We all know Lingard can be a top-quality player and he was deemed as surplus to requirements at Man United back in the winter. Why didn’t we add in a clause that we could sign him for x-amount of money on a permanent basis this summer?

While we understand Lingard could have still refused a permanent move, it would have put us in a far better position this summer to re-sign the England international than we are currently in.

It’s a head-scratcher but in all honesty, we cannot complain at all about how the loan deal went and we’re still very grateful to the player and Moyes for brokering that loan.

At the end of the day, Lingard probably wants to stay at Man United.

And you know what? We don’t blame him.

If he’s been promised a spot in their starting line-up then why wouldn’t he want to stay at a Champions League club with a good chance of winning silverware where he can earn more money and play for his boyhood team?

We really do wish him all the best there.
