Everton to ‘blow West Ham out of water’ with Evan Ferguson move

Everton could blow West Ham United out of the water to sign Brighton star Evan Ferguson, according to The Sun.

The British tabloid reported on Saturday (1 February, pg 66) that while the Irons remain confident over securing a loan move for the forward, a “serious money” offer from Everton or even Chelsea could thwart a potential deal.

West Ham United face serious competition for Evan Ferguson

Although the Irishman is set to be named in the Brighton squad for the first time since December to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday (1 February), the Seagulls demand £40million for his services.

Considering he has one Premier League goal to his name in 14 outings this term, the price tag is steep but not unusual for a young prospect of his ability.

The 20-year-old has fallen behind Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order at the Amex, but he remains one of the highest-rated youngsters in English football and desperately needs game time to live up to his potential.

However, despite Everton’s and Chelsea’s interest, ExWHUEmployee (31 January) believes Ferguson could become a Hammer after the match on Saturday.

With the 3 February deadline right around the corner and all the senior striker options at the London Stadium, barring Danny Ings on the sidelines, Potter must move fast.

Ferguson wants to reunite with the manager who gave him his first big break in football, and the Irons desperately need a new focal point for the attack.

It will be interesting to see whether Everton or Chelsea will try to outbid West Ham, but the rest of the season hinges on what unfolds in the next 48 hours.

In other West Ham news, a “plan B” has emerged for the Irons amid a last-gasp transfer for a striker.
