Evan Ferguson transfer: Brighton striker now urged to join West Ham

Brian Kerr has urged Evan Ferguson to make a loan switch to West Ham United amid interest in the Brighton striker.

West Ham have been courting Ferguson since the back end of December [TBR] and those links have resurfaced since the injury sustained by Niclas Fullkrug.

Graham Potter’s appointment was seen as a potential deciding factor as to where in-demand Ferguson could end up, with ex-Republic of Ireland manager Kerr backing him to make the move to the London Stadium.

Speaking to The Irish Independent [15 January], Kerr said: “You could see him playing at West Ham if he’s fit enough to play. That’s the sort of club. He needs to go somewhere where there aren’t three or four of them.

“There is Danny Ings – they haven’t been confident enough in playing Danny Ings. He needs to go somewhere where he’s going to play. I’m sure [Brighton] know that too.”

West Ham United need to ramp up efforts to sign striker

Even before the injury to Fullkrug, attacking reinforcements were an absolute necessity in the window and now that he’s sidelined, any potential chances of success could hinge on their ability to do just that.

Ferguson would be a shrewd option for the Irons but there will be considerations over the deal given the unlikelihood of it becoming a permanent move, as well as his own injury concerns.

Ultimately, if Ferguson were to arrive on loan, it would leave the Hammers in the exact same position come the summer in regards to needing a striker.

It has arguably been the biggest concern at the London Stadium for several seasons and, until a youthful yet quality forward is brought in, it will remain a concern.

Of course, the main focus has to be on turning the current season around but any decision made has to also consider the future and how it could impact things going forward.

In other West Ham news, the irons have been linked with a move for a young Celtic forward.
