Evan Ferguson to help West Ham seal £30m-plus Dovbyk transfer

Evan Ferguson may help West Ham seal the signing of Roma striker Artem Dovbyk.

Graham Potter is in desperate need of a new forward, as Niclas Fullkrug failed to impress last season and is the only senior option at the club right now.

Ferguson joined the Hammers on loan last season but did not have the required impact, failing to score in eight matches.

However, he could be crucial to their pursuit of the Ukrainian marksman after moving to Italy.

Ferguson to play vital role as West Ham chase Dovbyk

Ferguson has joined the Italian side after the Irons decided not to sign him permanently after his dismal stint at the London Stadium.

A report from La Gazzetta Dello Sport (page 18, 29 July) claims that Dovbyk could leave the Giallorossi after the Irishman was signed on loan, as he is not a guaranteed starter anymore.

It states that the Hammers and Leeds United are interested, and it could take a fee of £30.3million to attract Roma to sell the 28-year-old.

Dovbyk would be a great addition for West Ham

Dovbyk is a proven goalscorer at the elite level, notching 12 goals and two assists in Serie A last season.

He earned a move to the Italian capital after scoring 24 goals and bagging eight assists in 36 matches for Girona in La Liga in the 2023/24 campaign.

Potter’s side needs a reliable goalscorer, and the Ukraine international would fit the bill as he seems to be able to adapt to new surroundings and score wherever he ends up, judging by his spells in Italy and Spain.

The East London outfit are in talks with Callum Wilson over a free transfer, but given the former Newcastle man’s injury issues, it would make sense to bring in another attacker to complement him.

If the E20 club get it wrong, they could be in a relegation battle next season, and they need to be active in the market to make sure that does not happen.

So far, David Sullivan and Co. have only brought in El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters, and they need more signings if they are to progress under the ex-Brighton man.
