Emerson ready to leave West Ham United as new Roma summer transfer update emerges
West Ham United defender Emerson is ready to leave the London Stadium this summer with a return to Roma a possibility, according to Leggo.
As relayed by the Italian outlet AsRomaLive (4 June) the Italian giants could be ready to pounce to secure the left-back’s signature this summer after Florent Ghisolfi arrived to take over as the club’s new sporting director.
Roma have already moved to make Angelino’s stay in Italy permanent, but they also believe that the Hammers defender has the ability to replace Leonardo Spinazzola who is set to be a free agent.
Emerson’s current contract at the London Stadium runs until the end of the 2025/26 campaign and while there is no mention of the Irons’ stance on a summer exit, he is believed to be open to a return to Italy.
Will West Ham United sell Emerson during the summer transfer window?
While the second half of the season was disappointing for most players at the London Stadium, Emerson remained one of the Hammers’ most consistent players for much of the campaign and impressed the majority of fans and pundits.
There were a couple of occasions where he was guilty of switching off and letting his side down, namely in the defeat to Chelsea where the entire backline had a horror show, but for the most part, he really improved as the season wore on.
With Aaron Cresswell’s future up in the air beyond the end of June, Julen Lopetegui isn’t blessed with many options at left-back as he prepares to take over the reins from David Moyes this summer. He will be reluctant to lose his two senior options in one transfer window.
Even if Emerson is as keen on the switch as has been reported, he is under contract in East London and therefore it appears likely the Hammers will hold pout for a big fee before letting him depart.
Whether Roma will be willing to match that sort of asking price remains to be seen. This could be one to watch closely this summer.
