West Ham United are not planning on sanctioning Edson Alvarez's exit in the January transfer window, according to GiveMeSport.

The outlet reported on its website on Friday (8 November) that while Manchester United had previously been interested in the Mexican international, that no longer remains the case.

Julen Lopetegui's side have held behind-the-scenes talks with the midfielder following his red card against Nottingham Forest, with the club expecting him to turn his season around when he returns from suspension.

Alvarez himself is understood to be unhappy with how things have played out so far this term at the London Stadium, however, the Irons are not expecting to sell him when the transfer window opens in the new year.

Will Edson Alvarez exit West Ham amid London Stadium transfer speculation?

While the start to the season has not gone anywhere near as well as was expected for both Alvarez and the Hammers as a whole, it would be a mistake for the Irons to part ways with the Mexican international at this stage.

He isn't perfect and he does need to get his temper under control, but the midfielder arrived at Ajax with plenty of promise last summer and has already shown that he can be a real asset at the London Stadium.

Perhaps the biggest problem Alvarez has faced in East London is the lack of pace in and around him in the Irons midfield. Players like Carlos Soler, Tomas Soucek and Guido Rodriguez simply aren't quick enough to cover the ground around the former Ajax man.

Lopetegui needs to alter his system and personnel to find a way of playing that gets the best out of the Mexican if he wants to turn things around at West Ham. At his best, he can run games from the base of midfield.

Hopefully, Alvarez will return from the international break with a new outlook on the game and avoid any further suspensions. The Irons need him fit and firing if they want to start climbing the Premier League table.
