Graham Potter doesn't want West Ham United to sell Edson Alvarez in the winter transfer window, according to TBR Football.

The news outlet reports (23 January) that the English manager believes the Mexican midfielder has a "big future" at the London Stadium.

Monaco are interested in the 27-year-old but have failed in their attempts to sign him in the ongoing transfer window.

The Hammers have made it "clear" to the Ligue 1 outfit that they count on the former Ajax ace.

Graham Potter counts on Edson Alvarez at West Ham United

Alvarez moved to East London in the summer of 2023 and was a key player under David Moyes.

In the previous campaign, the midfielder seemed like a lynchpin for the Irons, but he struggled massively under Julen Lopetegui.

Many fans wanted to see the Mexico international dropped from the starting line-up after some poor performances at the start of the season.

West Ham have a new manager in Potter now, and it looks like he counts on the 27-year-old as the Hammers look to turn things around.

Alvarez has started in every game for the Irons since the former Brighton boss' appointment, but it will be interesting to see whether the midfielder will be relied on as they face Aston Villa on Sunday (26 January).

The Mexican needs to retain the supporters' faith until the end of the season, and it looks like Potter will give him the opportunity to do so.

All the London Stadium faithful can now hope for is a better second half of the campaign, which the 27-year-old will evidently play a big part in.
