Edson Alvarez exit: West Ham face new bid in transfer reveal

West Ham have received a new bid from Monaco for Edson Alvarez, according to the Daily Mail.

However, the Daily Mail has now reported in its sports print edition (page 10, 13 January) that the Ligue 1 club have returned with a new offer for the Hammers star who is under contract until 2028.

The 27-year-old has started 11 times in 16 appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

Alvarez could leave West Ham

The French club are not willing to walk away from their interest in Alvarez and can offer Champions League football, something which the Irons cannot.

The 83-cap Mexico international has struggled to impose himself as a key player in East London despite a £35million move from Ajax in August 2023.

That could change under Graham Potter’s leadership but the former Club America star may not get the chance if the Hammers decide to cut their losses.

His disciplinary record since the move to the London Stadium is horrendous, with 21 bookings in 61 total appearances for the club and two red cards this campaign.

The Irons should consider a sale if a potential fee is more than the £35m they spent on him, which appears highly unlikely at this stage.

They could then use the funds to back Potter in the January transfer window to reshape the squad however he desires.
