Edson Alvarez could be lining up an immediate West Ham United exit.

The midfielder has struggled to force his way into the starting line-up since his 2023 move to the London Stadium.

He has made 73 appearances for the Hammers, but only scored twice and assisted three times.

Alvarez spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce, making 18 appearances in his time in Turkey.

Nuno Espirito Santo is trying to make sales to boost the budget for an immediate return to the Premier League.

However, it appears that the Mexico star may not fit into his plans for the Championship campaign already.

Who wants to sign West Ham flop Edson Alvarez?

Alvarez is a likely contender to leave the Hammers in the summer transfer window, given that they need to raise funds by selling players.

Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that FC Koln are exploring a deal for the 28-year-old.

It states that the player is open to join the three-time German champions immediately, but the deal is apparently difficult to complete.

The 103-cap international is under contract with the East London side until the summer of 2028.

Should West Ham be keen to sell Alvarez?

Alvarez would surely be an asset for the Hammers in the second tier, as they try to make their way back to the top-flight.

At his best, he is an aggressive tackler, who is positionally aware and can make interceptions and blocks, and is dominant in the air.

He has not really shown any of that in his time with the E20 outfit, but in the new division with lower quality opposition, he could thrive and be a key asset.

He may not get the chance, and may not want the chance, if he is open to leaving Nuno's side this summer.

The Irons should be reluctant to let him leave due to what he could do on the pitch, but the idea of picking up a fee that could recoup some of the £35million that they spent, is a tempting one.

That may well come above the prospect of him ripping up the second tier and reviving his Hammers career after his stint in Turkey and a decent World Cup campaign.

But, hours after packing his bags in North America, he's already looking for a way out.
