Duje Caleta-Car flies to England as West Ham United make move for defender – Jim White

Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car has flown into England after West Ham entered the race to sign him, according to Jim White.

The Croatian defender has been the subject of interest from Aston Villa and Southampton this summer, but the Hammers have now made a move to bring him into the club before tonight’s transfer deadline.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on 1 September at 10:34am, the highly reliable White revealed some information that had come his way, stating that the player was trying to force through a move to the Premier League.

West Ham

“Bit of information coming into me here, that West Ham have now joined Southampton in the race to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car,” he said.

“We understand here at talkSPORT that the Croatian centre-back has flown to England to try and force through a Premier League move.”

Interesting

With Craig Dawson seemingly on his way out of the club after a £5.25m bid was received from Wolves, David Moyes is keen to bring in defensive cover.

It had seemed as though the club were looking at bringing in Jan Bednarek from Southampton on loan, but with Caleta-Car flying in to the country to try and force a move through it’s possible that could play on the deal.

With the Saints also interested in signing Caleta-Car it could lead to a bit of a domino effect where all the pieces fall into place, but should it get too late the Hammers could get twitchy and switch their plans.

Caleta-Car is an international defender with plenty of qualities that Moyes likes with his size and physicality, but whether he’d want to come in to essentially be backup to the defenders currently at the club.

It’s going to be a crazy day and this is one to keep an eye on with plenty of moving parts.
