Douglas Luiz transfer reality emerges as West Ham discussion revealed

Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz could potentially be affected as West Ham United reveal their transfer plans.

The Brazil international has struggled to settle in Turin after making a big-money move from Aston Villa last summer.

Luiz’s return to the Premier League could be on the cards this summer as the Serie A giants are open to his exit.

The ex-Manchester City player’s switch to the London Stadium has been speculated about in the ongoing transfer window, but the reality has now emerged.

West Ham transfer discussions haven’t involved Luiz

Luiz hasn’t been talked about by the Hammers during transfer discussions, a top spokesman for David Sullivan says.

The source close to the Irons’ owners has effectively suggested that the 27-year-old midfielder may not be of interest at the London Stadium.

While several reports have claimed the East London club have the Brazilian national on their radar, those rumours have been dismissed by the apparent insider.

Speaking to Hammers News (20 July), the spokesman said: “Nobody has mentioned Luiz in our transfer discussions.”

Graham Potter needs someone like Luiz at London Stadium

Luiz is needed at the London Stadium after the Hammers’ struggles in the middle of the park last season.

Edson Alvarez’s form has taken a steep fall in recent months, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave in the coming weeks.

Guido Rodriguez is surplus to requirements under Graham Potter, with the World Cup winner hardly featuring for the English manager.

West Ham should focus on building a competitive team this summer, and someone like the Juventus midfielder could certainly help with that.

While the 27-year-old hasn’t been at his best in Italy, the Brazilian midfielder’s qualities in the Premier League were evident.

With the Hammers seemingly not in the race for Luiz, they should undoubtedly reconsider their stance and maybe pursue a deal for him.

With Alvarez and Rodriguez both potentially leaving, the Hammers will arguably need to sign a quality number six before the end of August, and the Brazil international would certainly be a decent addition in E20.
