Dharmesh Sheth: West Ham United medical 50% done for Nayef Aguerd deal
Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd has already undergone the first part of his medical with West Ham, according to Sky Sports News journalist Dharmesh Sheth.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (15 June), Sheth reported that Aguerd, 26, underwent medical checks on Wednesday and is due back in the capital on Thursday (16 June) for the “second part” and to finalise his move.
It is understood that there is, however, late competition from Newcastle to complete the deal for the Morocco international.
Mind games?
All this talk of Newcastle making a late move for Aguerd is a concern, isn’t it?
Well, imagine how West Ham feel if this news has been leaked from either Newcastle’s end or from Aguerd’s camp.
If the Hammers are that worried then they might start to throw extra cash at the Moroccan in order to convince him to head to the London Stadium.
Even if a medical is done – in this case it’s 50 per cent done – there’s a chance that the transfer won’t be finalised so we wouldn’t be shocked if there was an effort here to get the player and his agents more money.
Or, it could be a ploy from West Ham.

Wouldn’t it sound amazing if the Hammers were to fend off a last-ditch attempt by super-rich Newcastle to seal a big-money signing? Of course it would and it’s the kind of thing we’d expect from the likes of David Sullivan.
It’s a weird story at this point and we’ve been waiting an age for it to get done.
In hindsight, West Ham should have got this sorted out before Aguerd went away on international duty with Morocco because the slow pace it’s moved at suggests that it’s being dragged out now there’s a long void between now and the pre-season starting.
In other West Ham news, the Irons have been offered the chance to sign this £12.8million goal machine after his club was relegated.
