Dharmesh Sheth: West Ham leave it late as they want two more signings before 31 January

West Ham are leaving it late in the January transfer window to seal two signings, according to Sky Sports News journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

David Moyes hasn’t signed any new players this month despite a lack of options at the back due to injury issues and no back-up for Michail Antonio up front.

Sheth reports that the Hammers want a centre-back and a centre-forward before the deadline passes on 31 January, despite leaving their business to such a late stage in the month.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Wednesday [26 January 05:20pm], Sheth said: “West Ham United are leaving it late, aren’t they?

“But they’re in the market for a central defender and a forward.”

Busy week

West Ham have a matter of days to seal their business for the month and with a spot in the top-four firmly up for grabs, it would be criminal to not make additions now.

Our squad is a good one. There is quality almost everywhere – especially in the midfield and in the attack.

However, the defence has been hit by injuries and for a Moyes team, we’re conceding too many goals.

It remains to be seen who will be brought in – if anyone.

At this stage, any business is going to be rushed and is likely to be done at a premium if we’re buying players who are good.

Why would clubs sell good players at a late stage in the January window? We’re going to be looking at players who are out of the picture at their clubs but Jesse Lingard proved last season how well that can work out.

Lingard could be linked again but he will not fill the two areas we need to add to.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have tabled a bid to seal a last-ditch defensive signing.
