Dharmesh Sheth shares what Harry Maguire source says about West Ham United transfer

West Ham United target Harry Maguire is settled at Manchester United and is confident that he can make regular first-team appearances this season after this move to the Hammers fell through, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist tweeted (15 August) that the former United captain could remain in Manchester, but also noted that Maguire respects West Ham and David Moyes but that there was never an agreement in place for the transfer.

Moyes and Maguire had never spoken about a prospective move, while Eric ten Hag’s side fears they’d be unable to replace the centre-back if he moved this late into the window.

Anticlimax

While at one point it looked like Maguire was set to become a Hammer, Sheth’s update suggests that the deal was never as close as reports suggested.

While transfer sagas can take sudden and unexpected twists, this deal is looking more and more unlikely. The Guardian reported (15 August) that West Ham have grown tired of waiting on Maguire’s decision to depart Old Trafford, meaning the club will have to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.

The collapse will be tough for Hammers fans to take, especially as the deal seemed so close. Maguire would have been a quality fit for a Moyes side, and the step down from the pressures of playing for Manchester United may have suited the England international who has not always performed under pressure.

The 30-year-old’s England call-up could be impacted by a lack of move. While Maguire himself may be confident in earning enough game time, England boss Gareth Southgate may consider other options who have made more of an impact on their side.
