Dharmesh Sheth shares what Di Marzio now tells him about Gianluca Scamacca exit at West Ham

Dharmesh Sheth has shared details regarding Gianluca Scamacca’s departure from West Ham while revealing what Gianluca Di Marzio has told him about the transfer.

Speaking on Sky Sports (2 August), Sheth shared that Atalanta are rivalling long-term admirers Inter Milan with a £25.8million deal for the striker, but Scamacca’s ideal destination is Inter who are yet to submit such a high bid.

Di Marzio revealed that Scamacca would not want a move to Atalanta, and could risk staying at West Ham unless Inter come in with a stronger bid.

Sheth said: “Atalanta are the latest club who are exploring a deal to sign Gianluca Scamacca. We think they are preparing a bid for around €30million (£25.8million) which would probably get the deal done.

“Earlier on in this window, Roma were interested. It’s Inter Milan who have shown the strongest interest. They’ve had a bid rejected by West Ham of around €20million (£17.1million). We’re expecting Inter to come back for another bid worth €30million (£25.8million), rather like what Atalanta are prepared to pay.

“That would come in the form of €25million (£21.5million) in initial payment plus €5million (£4.3million) in performance-related add-ons.

“I spoke to Gianluca Di Marzio earlier today about this potential deal and he seems to think that Scamacca is likely to wait for Inter and he probably wouldn’t go to Atalanta.

“However, money talks. Inter do need to make that deal acceptable to West Ham United. If Atalanta come in and West Ham accepts that deal and Inter don’t match it, Scamacca will then have a decision over whether to stay at West Ham or go to Atalanta or hope and wait for Inter to raise that bid.”

Get the deal done

While Scamacca will be eyeing up a move to the recent Champions League finalists, it is in West Ham’s best interest to get the deal over the line and secure the fee.

Inter will reportedly come in again for another bid closer to his valuation, so Scamacca could get his preferred destination amid a strong Atalanta bid.

West Ham

Roma will feel the burn of Scamacca’s sudden desire to play at the San Siro after the Italian admitted it was a dream to play under Jose Mourinho [Football Italia]. Despite Mourinho’s side reportedly nearly reaching an agreement for Scamacca [Rudy Galetti], Inter look to be the most likely to secure their Romelu Lukaku replacement.

Scamacca has not exactly thrived at West Ham, and tension between the former Sassuolo man and David Moyes spelt danger for the Italian international’s Hammers career.

Despite a rocky season, the 24-year-old is attracting attention from many of Serie A’s finest clubs, so initial West Ham fears about selling the forward were quickly eased.

The added transfer budget could go a long way in helping the Irons bring in a summer recruit. They are currently the only Premier League side yet to add a new player, and fans’ patience is beginning to be tested.

What is almost certain is that Scamacca will need replacing, as his short tenure in east London looks to be over.
