West Ham: Dharmesh Sheth ‘surprised’ by Jesse Lingard transfer development as ‘big contract’ mooted

Dharmesh Sheth expects Jesse Lingard to soon decide on his future but he’s “surprised” he’s taken so long to respond to a reported offer by West Ham.

Lingard, 29, has been a free agent since the end of June and West Ham were reported by ExWHUemployee to have made an offer for the former Manchester United .attacker back in June.

Sky Sports News journalist Sheth suggests that a big chunk of pre-season has been missed by Lingard as he drags out his decision.

“We’re expecting a decision from Lingard very soon. He has interest from Premier League clubs and an offer from Saudi Arabia,” said Sheth on Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre on Monday (18 July, 02:51pm).

“West Ham’s offer is on the table, there’s no doubt they want him, why wouldn’t they? Nine goals in 16 Premier League starts.

“I’m surprised it’s taken this long. He was a free agent on July 1, that’s nearly three weeks ago and pre-season is well underway. The club that’s going to get him would have wanted him in by now.

“The club will be what Lingard decides is best for him. At Lingard’s age, this is basically the last big contract he’ll sign in his career.”

Leave it

We’re really not impressed with Lingard.

Not only did he give us the cold shoulder last year in order to sit on Man United’s bench but he’s also left us hanging for weeks upon weeks for no good reason.

If he joins us, this will have all been a massive waste of time.

Instead of doing a proper pre-season with a club, he’s been messing about on social media, posting teaser videos about which club he’ll be joining next.

It’s really not funny.

We’ve always defended Lingard for his off-the-pitch antics but this is having a very real effect on West Ham United and their preparations for the new season.

David Moyes’ interest in Lingard is totally justified – he was superb on loan for us in 2021.

However, there comes a point where we need to forget about him and move on because we’ve probably ignored other potential signings waiting around for this clown.
