Dharmesh Sheth names four more players West Ham United could sign before August deadline
West Ham have identified four centre-back targets they could pursue in the final month of the transfer window, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist reported in their Transfer Centre blog (7 August) that Mats Hummels and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah are both in the Irons’ sights this summer, if they first sell captain Kurt Zouma.
Oumar Solet, who looks likely to leave RB Salzburg in the current window [Salzburger Nachrichten, 31 July], is also a player who could be pursued by the Hammers, as is Brazilian international and long-term target Fabricio Bruno.
Julen Lopetegui’s side reportedly haven’t given up on signing Bruno despite a deal falling through earlier this summer, but the Hammers have accepted that Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo wants a move to Juventus even though they have agreed a deal with his current club [Gazzetta dello Sport, 31 July].
Will West Ham complete another new centre-back transfer?
The Irons aren’t letting up when it comes to reshaping their defence this summer, and despite shelling out £40million on Max Kilman, the ex-Wolves captain could be joined more more new centre-backs.
With Zouma reportedly on the brink of a switch to the United Arab Emirates [Santi Aouna, 6 August], potentially signing both Chalobah and Hummels as replacements would feel like an early Christmas present for Hammers fans.

Nayef Aguerd is another defender who could be on his way out of the London Stadium, though the Moroccan’s personal terms are reportedly putting interested clubs off signing him [Sean Whetstone, 6 August].
Should either Chalobah or Hummels be signed in the wake of Zouma’s exit, they’ll both be hoping to claim a starting place next to Kilman with the new Premier League season just around the corner.
Moves for Solet and Bruno look to be longer shots, particularly given the latter has already rejected a move to East London, but with new faces looking set to arrive regardless, the Hammers’ leaky defence of last season could soon be a thing of the past.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are also keen on bringing in another striker despite signing Niclas Fullkrug this week.
