Dharmesh Sheth drops double West Ham United exit update on Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals
Said Benrahma is in talks with Lyon over personal terms after a loan exit from West Ham has been agreed, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist tweeted on Wednesday (31 January) that the deal to take the 28-year-old Algerian to the Ligue 1 club includes an obligation-to-buy clause worth £15million.
He added that fellow attacker Pablo Fornals is set to stay at the London Stadium as things stand as there is currently a gap in valuation between the Hammers and La Liga side Real Betis over the 27-year-old Spanish international.
No loss
It won’t be a loss to West Ham if either – or both – of Benrahma and Fornals leave the club over the course of the next 36 hours.
The duo have been on the decline over the past year or so after previously putting in some excellent performances during their time at the London Stadium.
There was a point where both of them were almost certain starters under David Moyes, but the signings of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus in the past couple of years have seen them slip down the pecking order.
They just haven’t been able to perform when handed opportunities this season, so securing a loan move for Benrahma and a decent obligation-to-buy fee isn’t the worst business.
But it sounds as though we may have to hold on to Fornals for now as there isn’t much point in allowing him to leave for less than his valuation, particularly given that he still has another year left on his contract once the summer comes around.
