Dharmesh Sheth details West Ham United transfer priority for January, ‘It certainly looks…’
Signing a new striker will be a priority for David Moyes and West Ham in the January transfer window, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (27 December), the Sky Sports journalist said it “certainly looks” like the Hammers will try and bring in a new striker after Michail Antonio has been sidelined through a knee injury for more than a month.
He praised the job Moyes has been doing in helping the Irons battle it out for a top-six position, having found other ways to add goals in the Jamaican international’s absence, with Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Tomas Soucek all getting on the scoresheet lately.

“It certainly looks that way, particularly a striker,” said Sheth. “You’ve seen the situation where Michail Antonio is so important to them, and he’s been injured for over a month now. So they haven’t been able to utilise him.
“Jarrod Bowen, he’s been playing down the middle quite a bit. They’ve brought in Mohamed Kudus, who’s chipped in with a number of goals as well. Tomas Soucek has scored. So they’ve got goals from other positions.
“Fair play to David Moyes. He’s managed to get West Ham United into the top six until Manchester United beat Aston Villa, of course. Got them into the top six, got them into the last 16 of the Europa League, the European campaigns that they’ve had in the last three seasons, you cannot underestimate the job that David Moyes has done.
“So yes, a striker will probably be a priority for David Moyes and West Ham United.”
Depth
There is absolutely no doubt that the West Ham squad needs more depth in the attacking positions following the injury to Antonio.
The squad has been extremely stretched over the past few weeks, with Bowen having to largely play out of position and take on the role of the main striker, something he has done extremely well.
But Moyes can’t expect to continue doing that for the rest of the campaign, while the 33-year-old Antonio did show signs in the first couple of months of the season that his best days may be behind him.

It’s no secret that the Hammers have been looking for the past few years for someone who can really come in and make the centre-forward position their own at the London Stadium, with Sebastian Haller and Gianluca Scamacca failing to live up to expectations.
The Irons will be desperate to ensure the next striker they splash the cash on is the right man for the club, but it could take a fair bit of money to get whoever that may be.
In other West Ham news, Micah Richards was wowed by what one Hammers star did after footage has emerged.
