David Sullivan may yet profit as sell-on fee details emerge on latest West Ham exit
West Ham have already been getting down to transfer business this month.
Niclas Fullkrug has signed for AC Milan, bringing to an end his disappointing 18 months as a West Ham player.
Meanwhile, West Ham have signed Pablo from Gil Vicente, with the 22-year-old Brazilian striker hoping to make an instant impact in a Hammers attack that is crying out for a goalscorer.
Further incomings and outgoings are expected at the London Stadium, in what is a crucial January transfer window as United look to bolster their squad sufficiently in order to escape the relegation predicament they find themselves in.
The need to strengthen further was only made incredibly evident in West Ham’s 3-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday, as Nuno Espirito Santo prepares to lead his side into a relegation six-pointer against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday with his job surely on the line.
Further details emerge on Luis Guilherme to Sporting transfer
There has been another big transfer exit on top of Fullkrug’s departure already this month, with Luis Guilherme sealing a move to Sporting Lisbon.
Guilherme only signed for West Ham in the summer of 2024, with the Hammers understood to have paid around £25.5million to acquire his services from Palmeiras.
However, the 19-year-old forward has struggled to break into the first-team picture with the Irons, making just 18 appearances over the last year-and-a-half.
Sporting Lisbon have reportedly paid around £17.4m for Guilherme, meaning West Ham have taken a loss on the teenager, for now at least…
That’s because according to a fresh report in Monday’s print edition of Record, West Ham have been able to insert a 15 per cent sell-on fee in the deal with Sporting.
Given how highly-rated he was when United signed him and with how young he still is, it’s not unrealistic to suggest he will improve significantly over the next few years and land himself another big-money move.
West Ham may have been better served retaining Guilherme’s services
A 15 per cent sell-on fee is a shrewd piece of additional business by West Ham, and sets them up to eventually make a profit on Guilherme down the line should he move to another club in the coming years.
However, his potential is extremely high, and had he been given more time and opportunities to reach that with the Hammers, then he may well have bankrolled them considerably more.
- Guilherme failed to provide a single goal or assist for West Ham
- He did score in his solitary appearance for West Ham’s Under-21 side
- Guilherme made 45 appearances for Palmeiras, scoring once
Especially if the worst should happen and West Ham get relegated this season, with stars such as Jarrod Bowen destined to leave in that scenario, Guilherme could’ve really evolved into a key role at the London Stadium in the Championship, and perhaps might’ve cemented himself as one of the best players in that division.
Guilherme has the profile of a young forward who could rip up the second tier of English football, and thus significantly raise his profile and transfer value as a result, meaning West Ham might not have needed to rely on him performing well elsewhere to recoup more funds on him.
