David Moyes to sanction up to four West Ham United player exits in January

David Moyes is set to sanction the departures of up to four West Ham players in the January transfer window, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (3 January), the former Eurosport journalist mooted an exit for Said Benrahma as he doesn’t believe the Algerian international is “going to cut it” at the London Stadium.

He added that the 28-year-old winger, who has had “umpteen opportunities” to impress for the Hammers, is receiving “quite a bit of interest” from clubs in France and Saudi Arabia.

“To be honest, Benrahma is just not going to cut it at West Ham,” said Jones. “It’s not going to happen for him. There have been umpteen opportunities for this to take off now, but it just hasn’t.

“I just don’t see the benefits of him being around the club. They are getting quite a bit of interest in him, from what I understand, not just from Lyon. I know a couple of other teams in France have been interested and there has been Saudi interest.

“There will probably be interest within the Premier League as well, to be honest, if they start touting him around. There is definitely going to be three or four players leaving West Ham in January.”

Not good enough

There are a few fringe players within the West Ham squad that just don’t seem up to it despite previously being important players for the club.

With defender Thilo Kehrer seemingly on his way to Monaco, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see any of Aaron Cresswell, Maxwel Cornet, Pablo Fornals, Danny Ings or Benrahma leave during this window.

While a couple of those players haven’t had many opportunities during this campaign, it’s quite clear that Moyes doesn’t see them as part of his plans moving forward.

When some of the first-team stars haven’t been available, there are very few fringe players who have come in and done well enough to earn regular minutes in the side.

Although it will be difficult to get some more quality through the door during this window, a forward and another creative player would be welcome.

In other West Ham news, a Premier League manager has made a decision on a player the Hammers want to sign.
