Darren Bent urges Harry Maguire to ‘get out’ of Man United and sign for West Ham United

Darren Bent has urged Harry Maguire to leave Manchester United and join West Ham this summer.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Drive Show on 14 August, the pundit said the England defender has to make the decision to leave Old Trafford because the club “clearly don’t want him”.

The former Spurs forward added that a move to East London would present him with the opportunity to play for another “big club”, but Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth reported on 15 August that the deal is now “off” as Man United feel as though they don’t have enough time to bring in a replacement.

“Harry’s got to make a decision,” said Bent. “Does he want to stay somewhere that clearly doesn’t want him and have played other players that don’t even play that position ahead of him like Luke Shaw, and that have taken the captaincy away from you?

“The fans don’t trust you, your teammates don’t trust you, your manager doesn’t trust you. Get out of there and go and start again. He can go to West Ham and have a fantastic career at another big club.”

Opportunity

A potential deal wouldn’t just present West Ham with the chance to bring in a player of Maguire’s quality, but it would also provide him with the opportunity to kick-start his career.

The centre-back has spent the best part of the past year on the bench at Old Trafford and he’s just been stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag.

His career isn’t going anywhere if he stays with the Red Devils and it would prove that he isn’t actually that fussed about the fact he isn’t going to be playing on a regular basis if he does decide to stay.

You would think he’d be keen to continue playing on a weekly basis while he still can and also to ensure he remains in Gareth Southgate’s plans with the European Championships in Germany less than a year away.

Although the latest development that a deal could now be off means the situation isn’t entirely in his hands, he could make it clear that he wants to leave to try and force the club’s hands.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been urged to sign a “fantastic” midfielder this summer.
