Danny Ings to leave for nothing as desperate West Ham United transfer update emerges

West Ham are determined to offload Danny Ings and are now willing to let him go for nothing during the transfer window, according to talkSPORT.

A report on the outlet’s website on 13 August that the club are “desperate” to get his wages off the books after just three Premier League goals in 37 games.

But it is said to be his £130,000-a-week contract which is proving to be a major stumbling block in moving the 32-year-old on.

Ings had interest from former side Southampton earlier in the window, but is said to have rejected that move, although the Hammers did sell Flynn Downes to the Saints for £18million [The Athletic, 17 July].

Ben Johnson and Angelo Ogbonna left as their contracts expired this summer and Said Benrahma, Thilo Kherer and Nathan Trott have been sold for modest fees, but savings will likely be needed after spending big on the likes of Max Kilman and Niclas Fullkrug.

Niclas Fullkrug signing pushes Danny Ings towards West Ham exit

Tim Steidten has managed to get a series of crucial signings over the line this summer but the corresponding exits aren’t coming through as easily.

Fullkrug’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund has handed Julen Lopetegui the new starting striker he needed and leaves Ings as third choice at best.

His £15million move from Aston Villa has to go down as a major disappointment and for the wages he is on the Englishman has not justified the investment.

But it will likely be tough to find a club willing to take on his contract when his goal return has not matched up over the past year and a half.

West Ham
West Ham are set to say goodbye to Kurt Zouma.

Kurt Zouma is another big-money senior player who the Hammers are trying to offload for nothing just to get his wages off the books, but having failed a medical his move to Shabab Al-Ahli has collapsed [The Times, 12 August].

The possibility of negotiating a pay-off for the French defender to void the final year of his deal has been suggested, but whether the Irons would be willing to go down the same route with Ings remains to be seen.

In other West Ham news, another attacker is on the brink of securing a move away from the London Stadium.
