Danny Ings headed for January transfer amid final West Ham United opportunity

Danny Ings may be handed a final opportunity to prove his worth at West Ham following the injuries to Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (22 November), the former Eurosport journalist said the 31-year-old was “heading for a January” transfer before his fellow attackers picked up their injuries during the international break.

He added that the English forward is going to get more opportunities than he did previously over the next few weeks, but he believes it will be interesting to see whether the Hammers trust him to lead the line.

“I don’t think that there are that many West Ham fans right now who have got much faith in Danny Ings being the answer to this solution based on what they’ve seen so far,” said Jones.

“I think that Danny Ings was heading for a January transfer. Maybe this is a late, last opportunity for him to prove that he can make this work out at West Ham.

“Certainly, he is going to get more opportunities now than he would have had before. But it’ll be interesting to see if that’s definitely the route that West Ham want to go down and how much they even trust Danny Ings.”

Now or never

It really is now-or-never territory for Ings at West Ham after the injuries over the past few days have really opened up the door to more minutes for him.

The forward has failed to impress since joining from Aston Villa during the January transfer window, having scored just three goals and laid on two assists in 34 appearances.

Although most of those outings have come from the bench, he has done very little to prove why he deserves to be more involved after failing to find the back of the net in 12 matches this season.

It’s pretty clear that David Moyes is running out of patience with the Englishman, but he really has to stand up and make himself accounted for if he gets the nod against his old side Burnley on Saturday (25 November).

If he doesn’t take whatever increased opportunity does come his way, then it’s hard to see him having a future at the London Stadium for too much longer.
