Crystal Palace submit bids to beat West Ham United to Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards

Crystal Palace have submitted bids to beat West Ham United to the transfer of Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards, according to Simon Jones.

The Daily Mail journalist, writing in his Window Watch column (4 January, page 65) shares that the South London outfit have seen three bids knocked back for the defender already with the Hammers said to be interested.

The East Londoners have long been linked with the talented young defender Peterborough Telegraph (16 October) as London Stadium defender Thilo Kehrer is now just 48 hours away from an exit to join AS Monaco.

Defender Nayef Aguerd is also attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.

Busy days ahead

The Hammers had a £4m bid knocked back for Edwards in the summer and should return with another in January as David Moyes and technical director Tim Steidten continue their search for some of the best English talents around.

Edwards certainly fits the bill given his tremendous upward trajectory over the past year and it’s been reported that it could take another £2m on top of the £4m to sign him.

West Ham

West Ham United are already set to lose Kehrer in the window and are also facing the threat of losing Nayef Aguerd if the Saudi money proves too much for him to reject.

Steidten and Moyes certainly have a busy few days behind the scenes and it’s time they start sounding out potential targets now to build ahead should the worst happen.

The 20-year-old has long been one of the most exciting defensive talents in the EFL and is certainly ready for a big step in his career, and there may well be no better platform than at West Ham United.

This is a potential deal the Irons simply cannot afford to pass up on, especially with the Crystal Palace interest heating up.

In other West Ham news, a Premier League manager has made a decision on a player the Hammers want to sign.
