Crystal Palace submit £15m bid for Adam Wharton after West Ham United transfer development

Crystal Palace have lodged a £15m bid for Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton after missing out on Kalvin Phillips to West Ham, according to The Mirror.

Writing on their live blog (24 January, 18:16), the news outlet report that the Eagles have made a bid for the young midfielder as Roy Hodgson looks to bolster his midfield options to avoid relegation.

Hodgson had previously admitted an interest in Phillips from Manchester City, but the England international is now set to join West Ham on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy with a medical set for Thursday.

“Crystal Palace have lodged a £15million bid for Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton,” they wrote.

“Palace had looked into a loan swoop for Kalvin Phillips but were beaten to the punch by West Ham. Now teenage starlet Wharton, who made his senior debut for Rovers at the age of 17, is at the top of their winter transfer agenda.”

Excellent

In case there were any fans still doubting whether or not the Phillips deal was happening or could be hijacked, this is the news you would have been waiting for.

Newcastle simply can’t afford to do a deal right now, Juventus were never a genuine option despite reports so that left Palace and West Ham.

Palace played their hand early to get a deal done in public but West Ham have agreed the deal and pushed to get it done quickly, so with the Eagles now turning their attention to an alternative option it shows that real progress has been done.

Phillips is going to be a fantastic signing and will add genuine quality and depth to the midfield alongside the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek, Edson Alvarez and Lucas Paqueta which gives David Moyes a fantastic range of options.

Hammers fans can genuinely be excited and watch this team push for a Champions League place and the latter places in the Europa League too.
