Crystal Palace and Brighton are gearing up to hijack West Ham United's bid to sign Corinthians winger Wesley Gassova, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (page 51, 12 May) that the Irons are thrashing out an agreement to sign the 19-year-old wonderkid after their opening bid of £13million was rejected by Corinthians.

It is understood that the Brazilian club wants at least £20million, plus add-ons, for the left-winger.

The Sunday Mirror adds that while West Ham continue their efforts to sign Wesley, his agent Clovis Henrique has flown into Europe and Palace and Brighton have both approached with enquiries over a summer deal.

West Ham United being made to speed things up

Is this update genuine? Or is it a ploy being made by someone to speed West Ham up into paying Corinthians more money for Wesley?

It seems likely that it's the latter because we've seen a few reports about West Ham's interest in the Brazilian teenager now and only with the summer approaching and an opening bid failing have other clubs been mentioned.

Palace and Brighton might well have eyes on the 19-year-old talent but it could be getting used against the Hammers to solidify their move in the coming weeks.

Wesley seems like an exciting prospect.

In the 2024 season, he's scored four goals and supplied two assists for Corinthians in 24 appearances across all competitions.

He netted two of those goals in a 3-0 win against Fluminense in the Brazilian Serie A at the end of last month so he's someone who has a fair bit of senior experience despite his age.

Let's see how this unfolds as the summer transfer window gets closer.
