Crystal Palace make late approach to sign Callum Wilson after West Ham exit news

Callum Wilson has had an incredible spell at West Ham so far.

The English striker joined the Hammers on a free transfer after leaving Newcastle in the summer, and he has been prolific when called upon.

Wilson scored West Ham’s winning goal against Tottenham on Saturday after coming off the bench in the dying minutes of the match.

However, reports suggested that Nuno Espirito Santo was keen to let Wilson leave in January.

With speculation mounting over his future, an approach from Crystal Palace has made West Ham‘s stance on the 33-year-old clear.

Callum Wilson set to stay at West ham despite Crystal Palace enquiry

Wilson looked destined to leave West Ham, although that has completely changed after what he did in the 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

TalkSPORT has reported that Palace enquired about signing him, while Celtic were also keen on securing his services.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia were also interested in Wilson, but he now looks set to stay in E20 in order to help West Ham avoid relegation.

Given the arrivals of Pablo and Taty Castellanos, it’s unclear how often Wilson will play, but he is an incredibly useful option to have off the bench, given his experience.

With three strikers now available to him, Nuno has no more excuses, provided he is given defensive reinforcements before the deadline on 2 February.

As for Wilson, he’ll undoubtedly be thrilled to have the opportunity to keep playing in the top flight, and he needs to prove to the West Ham faithful why Nuno was right to keep him.

West Ham couldn’t afford to let Wilson leave

Having registered 117 goal contributions in the Premier League, Wilson is no stranger to digging his team out of trouble.

Wilson was fantastic for West Ham in November, scoring three goals in two games and adapting well to Nuno‘s system.

However, he was unfairly dropped during a four-match run in December, and it felt as though the Portuguese manager didn’t trust him to lead the line

Wilson has shown for over a decade that his movement in the box is elite and that he can be a reliable source of goals for the Hammers.

Pablo and Castellanos have been impressive since coming through the door, but they are still unknown quantities at this level.

Having Wilson in the squad will help them improve their performances, and it could be the difference between Premier League survival and relegation for West Ham.
