Crysencio Summerville exit clause details emerge as West Ham United complete new transfer
West Ham United sealed the transfer of Crysencio Summerville after activating a clause in the winger’s Leeds United contract.
The Whites confirmed in announcing the exit of the Dutch forward that such a clause existed with the Hammers believed to have paid in excess of £25million plus add-ons for the 22-year-old (LeedsLive, 3 August).
LeedsLive later shared further details of the exit clause, stating that it became active when Leeds were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 season.
They added that the clause remained active once Leeds failed to win promotion back to the top flight after losing to Southampton in the Championship play-off final. No other club activated the terms of Summerville’s release clause, LeedsLive said.
West Ham continue busy window with Summerville deal
Summerville becomes the fourth addition to the Hammers’ ranks with this summer with Luis Guilherme, Max Kilman and Wes Foderingham having arrived at the London Stadium already.
Argentina World Cup winner Guido Rodriguez and Germany international Niklas Fullkrug are also on the cusp of making the move to East London in what has been a real cranking up of business at the London Stadium over the past few days.
With Aaron Wan-Bissaka also likely to join from Manchester United, Julen Lopetegui’s squad is really starting to take shape with the new Premier League season on the horizon.

What might come as a surprise is that no other club decided to activate the terms of Summerville’s contract, especially considering he was the Championship Player of the Season in 2023/24.
But other teams’ loss is West Ham’s gain and Summerville is an exciting addition to an already exciting forward line at the London Stadium.
