Crysencio Summerville completes West Ham United medical before Guido Rodriguez, Niclas Fullkrug

Crysencio Summerville is set to be confirmed by West Ham after completing the first of a trio of medicals which could transform the transfer window at the London Stadium.

According to an update on the Sky Sports website on 2 August from Dharmesh Sheth the Dutch winger’s official announcement after joining from Leeds United could come before the end of Saturday.

The club was hoping to get the 22-year-old’s deal wrapped up in time to get him involved in the preseason rather than keeping him in the UK.

Summerville joins Luis Guilherme in filling out a wide attacking area which was looking thin after Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma was allowed to leave without replacement earlier this year.

The young Brazilian Guilherme was joined by Max Kilman as the headline arrivals of the summer transfer window as Tim Steidten restocked for new manager Julen Lopetegui, but the picture was starting to look concerning heading into the final month of the window with multiple new arrivals still needed.

But the German has turned things around in a huge way at the start of August and now looks to have got wide areas, central midfield, and crucially striker addressed.

The Summerville news comes amid a blitz of Irons deals as agreements have been reached for both Niclas Fullkrug [Florian Plettenberg, 2 August] and Guido Rodriguez who are now set for their own medicals, with the latter’s already booked for Saturday [Fabrizio Romano, 2 August].

There is always a desire to strengthen further and if the Irons can do deals to sell players who are no longer part of the long-term plans that may be possible.

Moves for Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma, for example, would free up funds to add another new defender after Kilman and an exit for Danny Ings would help move for another forward.

But if Fullkrug and Rodriguez pass their medicals just as Summerville has it may just take the long-awaited conclusion of the Aaron Wan-Bissaka pursuit to have the window looking largely sorted.

There have been positive steps towards landing the Manchester United right-back as well [Sheth, 31 July] so if he follows the impending trio it would be an extremely impressive turnaround on paper from the Hammers’ technical director.

In other West Ham news, a club has been accused of using the Irons to drive up the price of a player who was never going to move to the London Stadium.
