Cerny in Rangers limbo as West Ham told to pay £8m in transfer swoop

West Ham United would have to pay £8 million to sign Rangers loanee Vaclav Cerny from Wolfsburg, according to Kicker.

The German news outlet reported on Wednesday (22 January) that there is no purchase option in his loan at Ibrox and also no chance of a return to Wolfsburg after the Bundesliga outfit signed winger Andreas Skov Olsen.

West Ham United could sign Vaclav Cerny

There is less than two weeks before the transfer window slams shut on 3 February, and the West Ham faithful are starting to get antsy.

The long-term injury to summer signing Niclas Fullkrug leaves the Irons without a recognised centre-forward, with Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus tasked with leading the line in recent weeks.

However, with captain Jarrod Bowen also on the sidelines and Kudus expected to push for an exit in the summer [The Times], there are several problem areas on the pitch to be addressed.

Although Cerny will not be available until the summer, his signing should spark some excitement among the Hammers supporters – he has been excellent at Rangers this season.

With 12 goals and seven assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, £8m is an absolute bargain for a player of his quality.

Furthermore, Kudus has a £85m release clause in his contract at the London Stadium, meaning the Irons could stand to replace the Ghanaian international with another creative playmaker while operating £77m in the black.

This is the biggest no-brainer transfer decision Potter will ever have to make in East London.
