Celtic transfer blow as West Ham United eye double deal

West Ham United want to sign a couple of young players from under the nose of Celtic, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported via The Sun on Sunday‘s print edition [17 November, page 59] that Airdrie twins Cole and Dylan Williams are wanted by West Ham, Celtic and Southampton.

The teenage duo were previously on the Hoops’ books but are now with Airdrie, where they are under short-term contracts and are said to be able to quit.

Nixon adds that the Irons and Southampton lead the chase for the Williams brothers.

It is fair to say not a great deal is known about these players from a United perspective, but Celtic will be far more aware of them.

If the Hammers do indeed like the look of them, Tim Steidten will have to move swiftly because seeing off competition from Celtic – and to a lesser extent Southampton – will not be easy.

Cole and Dylan will not be signed to slot into the first team, of course, but it is always exciting to know the club have one eye on the future.

Bringing through young talents has to be more of a priority for the club as splashing out huge sums on new recruits each summer is simply not sustainable.

Everything on the pitch is rather glum right now, with doubts remaining over the manager, but at least there seems to be some movement behind the scenes in terms of ensuring the future is a lot brighter.

In other West Ham news, a Manchester City player is also on the Irons’ radar ahead of the January window.
