Casey asks to leave on loan, West Ham respond – ExWHUEmployee
West Ham are said to have blocked an exit for Kaelan Casey after the defender asked to depart the London Stadium on loan, according to ExWHUEmployee.
The Hammers insider reported via the West Ham Way Patreon (1 February) that Casey asked for a loan move but Graham Potter insisted on keeping him for his own squad with Jean-Clair Todibo only just nearing a return.
A loan move was mooted for the youngster prior to the winter window [Roshane Thomas] but as it stands, it appears that Casey will be remaining where he is.
West Ham need further defensive reinforcements
At least on paper, the Irons have an abundance of quality in attack and midfield but perhaps lack some of it when it comes to their defensive lineup.
The return of Todibo will certainly alleviate some concerns, but the form of Konstantinos Mavropanos still lingers at the London Stadium and the Irons could certainly do with an upgrade.
Potter has certainly caused an improvement but there will be only so far he can take West Ham with the lack of quality in defence and that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Opting against a loan exit for Casey makes sense but at the same time, doesn’t. They need options and depth but for a young player like himself, regular first-team football should be a priority and that is unlikely to come with the Irons.
With just over a day remaining until the 3 February transfer deadline, time is running out for the Hammers to finalise any further transfer dealings.
