Carney Chukwuemeka to West Ham: Transfer twist emerges in France

West Ham United are interested in Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Give Me Sport journalist reports on his personal X account (9 January) that the Hammers are among the potential suitors for the 21-year-old.

Chelsea could also loan him to sister club Strasbourg but have already sent Djordje Petrovic, Caleb Wiley and Andrey Santos there, meaning one would need to return first for that to happen.

Carney Chukwuemeka to join West Ham United?

Chukwuemeka is arguably one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League, but Chelsea will be looking to send him to a club where minutes will be guaranteed.

As things stand, the Irons aren’t in a position to experiment with their team as they sit 14th in the English top-flight table.

The East London outfit hired Graham Potter after the departure of Julen Lopetegui, and the English manager will be expected to bring stability to the team.

West Ham made several quality additions to the squad in the previous transfer window, which the former Brighton boss must get the best out of.

The Irons have the likes of Edson Alvarez, Guido Rodriguez, Tomas Soucek, Carlos Soler and Lucas Paqueta in their engine room.

Potter needs to be able to work with what he has to convince fans about the long-term project at the East London outfit.

A move to the Hammers wouldn’t make sense for Chukwuemeka, considering the competition for places in the team.

It will be interesting to see whether Tim Steidten will actually push to get a deal for the England Under-21 international over the line.
