Carlos Soler transfer: Graham Potter plan could lead to permanent West Ham deal

West Ham United could trigger the option to buy Carlos Soler if things go to plan under Graham Potter, according to AS.

The news outlet reports (15 January) that the Hammers could make his loan move permanent if the midfielder can establish himself in Potter’s new plans.

Soler joined the Irons on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the previous transfer, with a purchase option of around £16million included in the deal.

After a poor start to his career at the London Stadium, it seems like the Spaniard is finally getting the hang of the Premier League.

Julen Lopetegui was expected to bring the best out of a much-improved Hammers’ squad, including the former Valencia ace, but was unable to do so.

Instead, under the Spanish manager, the East London club looked ordinary, with the fans calling for a change in the dugout.

West Ham finally replaced Lopetegui with Potter in January, and things look to be on the up after some impressive performances already.

While Aston Villa beat the Irons 2-1 in the FA Cup on 10 January, the former Brighton boss got his first win against Fulham on Tuesday (14 January).

The Hammers looked like a renewed outfit as they beat the Cottagers 3-2 in the Premier League, gaining much-needed three points.

Soler got on the scoresheet at the London Stadium and looked comfortable in Potter’s system despite heavy pressure, which should arguably be an encouraging sign for the rest of the season.

If things continue similarly, it wouldn’t be surprising if the 28-year-old completed a permanent switch.
