Carlos Soler move to West Ham United held up as ace rejects exit move from London Stadium

Carlos Soler’s move to West Ham has been slowed down by Nayef Aguerd’s refusal of a move away, according to The Guardian.

Jacob Steinberg reported on the paper’s website on 26 August that the Spanish international’s expected arrival from Paris Saint-Germain has been held up by delayed departures from the London Stadium.

Aguerd rejected a loan-to-buy move to the Bundesliga, with the jilted club reported by Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna on 26 August to be Wolfsburg.

Soler is reportedly a “key priority” for Julen Lopetegui before the window closes but after heavy spending this summer there is currently a focus on raising funds before anyone else comes in.

It appears work on the actual deal for Soler at PSG is now done and he can come in once room is made [The Times, 26 August].

That looks likely to still happen as Kurt Zouma is on the brink of a Saudi Pro League switch and Aguerd also has plenty of other interest too [Dharmesh Sheth, 6 August].

Alternative offers are thought to have already arrived for the 28-year-old [Daily Mail, 27 August] so another move away is seemingly on the cards before the deadline.

West Ham
Nayef Aguerd has made just 39 Premier League appearances since arriving at West Ham in 2022.

Assuming Soler, 27, is due to be a loan-to-buy move that doesn’t require a major fee up front he may be able to come in once the two high-earning defenders leave for new starts.

Danny Ings is also in line to depart as he has failed to live up to his own sizeable contract [talkSPORT, 13 August].

Most of the David Moyes squad which Lopetegui inherited is available at the right price, and it looks like the Hammers are also close to signing Tammy Abraham from Roma [Corriere dello Sport, 26 August] so various will likely need to be shifted to get Soler and the ex-Chelsea striker through the door.

In other West Ham news, the Irons could offload two midfielders to sign a Champions League-winning England international.
