Carlos Soler medical update emerges ahead of West Ham United deadline day transfer

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler has completed his medical ahead of a move to West Ham, according to Sky Sports.

The website reported via its live blog [30 August, 8:29pm] that the 27-year-old is set to join the Hammers on a season-long loan, though a two-year deal has also been mooted [Graeme Bailey].

Soler jetted into the UK earlier on Friday 30 August, with the London club covering the entirety of his salary as part of the agreement, which includes an option to buy [Fabrizio Romano].

West Ham United close in on deal to sign Carlos Soler

Fans will be excited to see this update, with only a few hours left until the transfer window slams shut for another few months.

Julen Lopetegui’s midfield is, arguably, the biggest worry heading into the new Premier League campaign, though Edson Alvarez and Guido Rodriguez are likely to bolt down the defensive midfield role.

With James Ward-Prowse now moving to Nottingham Forest [Rob Dorsett], the other options are Tomas Soucek and Andy Irving, which shows a lack of depth in the middle of the park.

Soler, who has also deputised at right-back during his time at PSG, is an extremely exciting centre-midfielder, one that can bring goal contributions to the London Stadium.

While he has only notched eight goals in 63 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, his record with Valencia is much more impressive, boasting 36 goals and 31 assists during his six years with the senior squad.

He could be the final piece of Lopetegui’s puzzle after adding a number of signings to the squad this summer, joining the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Niclas Fullkrug and Max Kilman.

Passionate fans have been waiting patiently for Soler’s deal to finally go through in East London, and it seems now all that they’re waiting for is an official announcement.
