Carlos Soler is in advanced discussions to leave Paris Saint-Germain and join West Ham before 30 August, according to Le Parisian.

The French source reported on Thursday (22 August) that the Hammers are getting closer to an agreement over a deal worth £19.5million including bonuses, with significant progress made in recent hours.

It is understood that Soler will arrive at the London Stadium on an initial one-season loan [Florian Plettenberg], though PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos would rather a straight transfer.

Julen Lopetegui has added plenty of fresh faces to the squad at the London Stadium, creating a rather different-looking lineup ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, but it appears business is not finished yet.

Of course, after all the new signings, outgoings are now the main priority for the Hammers [Fabrizio Romano], with several stars now being linked with exits before the 30 August deadline.

Despite this, Soler looks set to be the newest addition to the squad, and most will argue that Lopetegui currently lacks the most depth in midfield.

With Edson Alvarez still sidelined through injury, and unlikely to return until the Fulham clash on 14 September [Sean Whetstone], Guido Rodriguez is the only other defensive midfielder at the manager's disposal.

While Soler is more of a centre midfielder, his ability to deputise at right-back will have given him enough defensive ability to do a job for Lopetegui if and when called upon.

This, however, would likely see one of, or both, James Ward-Prowse or Tomas Soucek leave the club before the summer transfer window closes in eight days.

Both are extremely useful assets to have at the London Stadium, but Lopetegui must make room in his squad if Soler is to be signed before the deadline hits near the end of the month.
