Carlos Soler agrees to join West Ham United as new transfer details emerge

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler has agreed to join West Ham ahead of the August 30 deadline, according to L'Equipe.

The French source reported on Thursday (22 August) that the Hammers have made approaches toward a £21.2million transfer, including bonuses, for the 27-year-old Spaniard in the last few hours.

It is understood that Julen Lopetegui's side are looking to strike a loan-to-buy deal with the Ligue 1 giants, according to Florian Plettenberg, with eight days of the transfer window remaining.

While Lopetegui has already added many new faces to the squad at the London Stadium, business is clearly not finished for the Irons.

Despite only eight days left before the transfer window slams shut, Soler looks set to be West Ham's 10th signing of the window, with only a handful of players leaving so far.

Due to this, the club's main priority before 30 August is shipping players out of the squad [Fabrizio Romano], with multiple being linked with moves anyway.

This, of course, could lead to more room opening up in the squad, which will be needed if Soler is to arrive as a new signing this summer.

Lopetegui's midfield is probably the biggest area of concern, especially after their opening-day defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League, with Amadou Onana running the show in the middle of the park.

Edson Alvarez being yet to return from injury is certainly a huge blow, with Guido Rodriguez having to be thrown straight into the starting lineup, so Soler could be given a defensive role.

While he is naturally a central midfielder, his ability to deputise at right-back should give him enough ability to play as a holding midfielder if and when called upon by the manager.

Soler also has a keen eye for goal, having notched 36 goals for Valencia before earning his move to PSG, where he has scored eight goals in 63 appearances. He has also won 14 international caps with Spain.

If Lopetegui wants more experience, Soler could certainly be his man.
