Brentford hope to keep Christian Eriksen amid West Ham United interest

Brentford are hopeful of keeping midfielder Cristian Eriksen at the club next season amid reported interest from West Ham.

According to Claret and Hugh, the Hammers could move for the 30-year-old Danish midfield maestro in the summer.

Brentford boss, Thomas Frank, is hopeful that the midfielder will sign a contract extension at the end of the season.

“I am always positive,” said Frank to BBC, as relayed by The Atheltic.

“I always believe we have a very good chance. I know he is happy here, he is enjoying his football. It is a decision that will be taken at the end of the season.”

Move on

The midfielder has looked like he has returned to his old best after suffering a cardiac arrest playing for Demark in Euro 2020 last summer.

He has one goal and two assists to his name and has helped his side move to 14th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.

A rule in Serie A did not allow the midfielder to resume his Inter Milan career as he had a pacemaker fitted, but he is showing encouraging form for the Bees.

A top-quality midfielder, Eriksen would still be a handy option for top sides in the Premier League. However, the Hammers must pass down the opportunity.

In the summer, the club need to sign a quality midfielder to replenish the void of Mark Noble who will be retiring at the end of the season.

Eriksen has got a wealth of experience and quality, but the Hammers should focus on bringing young talent who could add dynamism and energy to the middle of the park.

West Ham are heading in the right direction, and the club must think of long-term benefits. Signing Eriksen, even at a low price, hardly makes sense.
