Birmingham medical tonight for West Ham United defender Emmanuel Longelo to leave on loan – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham defender Emmanuel Longelo is set to undergo a medical with Birmingham City on Tuesday night ahead of a loan move to St Andrew’s, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday evening (30 August) that Blues have “reached an agreement” with the Hammers to sign Longelo, 21, on a season-long deal.

It is understood that once his medical is done, the left-back will sign his temporary contract to join the Championship strugglers.

All the best

Longelo needs to impress at Birmingham.

He’s in the final year of his contract at West Ham and we feel as though his performances in the West Midlands will have a major say in whether or not he’s offered fresh terms.

Longelo did break into West Ham’s senior side last season when he played 90 minutes in the Europa League against Dinamo Zagreb at the London Stadium.

In the season before that, the English left-back played against Hull City in the Carabao Cup.

The Barking-born flyer has never really played professional football other than those two appearances with the Irons, where he’s spent his entire career since joining up with the Under-10s.

His move to Birmingham could be the making of him – and we hope it is.

West Ham

Longelo has worked hard at West Ham, getting his head down and impressing for the Under-21s and previously the Under-23s in Premier League 2.

It’s about time he gets a break but a move to a low-end Championship club shows what kind of level he’s really at and it does unfortunately suggests his time at the London Stadium is coming to an end in the next 12 months.
