Big chance West Ham make move to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone – Alan Nixon

There’s a “big chance” West Ham will make a move to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in the summer, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing via his Patreon account on Sunday [17 April], the Sun journalist reported that Manchester United will loan Dean Henderson out next season and are willing to subsidise at least half of his £120,000-a-week wages.

It is understood that Man United are keen on re-signing Johnstone, 29, from West Brom with the England goalkeeper’s contract due to expire.

Nixon adds that West Ham are big admirers of Johnstone and are likely to swoop in to sign him once he’s a free agent.

Frozen out

Johnstone is done at West Brom.

He was completely left out of the side that beat Blackpool on Good Friday with Steve Bruce opting to start David Button and name Alex Palmer on the bench.

Johnstone is already on the beach, his season is over – as his time at The Hawthorns.

The 29-year-old hasn’t pulled up any trees in the Championship this season.

WhoScored tweeted on 13 April that Johnstone has committed more goal-bound errors (3) than any other player in the Championship.

He did well in the Premier League last season but was faced with a lot of shots so did the increased amount of work make him look better?

It’s not hard to figure out that a goalkeeper that faces more shots is more likely to concede more and also make a lot more saves – some of which will be brilliant.

Johnstone’s form last term got him in the England squad for the European Championships.

Is he good enough for West Ham?

In all honesty, he’s not better than what we already have.
