Ben Johnson set to leave West Ham United as Rangers talks held

Ben Johnson appears to have moved closer to the exit door at West Ham United with Rangers the latest club to show interest in signing him, according to The Athletic.

Rumours linking the fullback away from East London have been rife as his contract situation rumbles on.

The Englishman is out of contract in the summer and, as a result, he has been linked to plenty of clubs who are said to be interested.

Now a report by Atletic journalist Roshane Thomas has suggested that Johnson is to leave at the end of the season with Scottish Premiership side Rangers having held talks with his representatives over a move to Glasgow.

There is also strong interest from England with Crystal Palace and Leeds United also said to be interested in signing him.

Could West Ham United keep Ben Johnson?

Johnson is a versatile option who can play at left or right back and has even filled in as a central midfielder at times this season.

He is a physical presence, which makes him a point of difference to other, more technical options like Emerson Palmieri.

The 24-year-old is someone who likes a battle with his opposite player, especially in the air which is where he can thrive.

With that being said, he isn’t afraid to get the ball on the floor and drive forward while looking to get a cross into the box.

Although he can sometimes lose the ball too easily, there is no doubt that, with some consistent game time, he can improve.

Ben Johnson could leave West Ham for one of several interested clubs this summer.

This is the exact reason behind his desire to depart the London Stadium as he goes in search of a regular first-team spot.

It will be frustrating to lose a player who has worked his way through the academy but the decision is in his hands now.
