Bayern Munich update shared in race for West Ham United-linked Jonathan Tah
Bayern Munich are nearing a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah despite interest from West Ham, according to HITC.
The online source reported [11 June] that the German giants are set to secure the defender’s signature ahead of the Hammers, Chelsea and Liverpool this summer.
It is understood that the Irons’ technical director Tim Steidten was “particularly keen” on signing the 28-year-old, though it now appears Tah will be joining the list of transfers already missed out on.
West Ham United to miss out on Jonathan Tah as Bayern Munich strike
Allianz Arena looks to be Tah’s next destination, and considering Bayern’s dominance when it comes to stealing players from other clubs in the Bundesliga, few fans are surprised.
Julen Lopetegui will be keen to add defensive additions to his squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign but will need to continue the search after seemingly missing out on Tah.
Following Angelo Ogbonna’s exit, the Spaniard is left with Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Nayef Aguerd, with the latter also being linked with a London Stadium exit this summer.
If West Ham are to have a smooth transition from the David Moyes era, Lopetegui must have a squad ready to go in the Premier League, and the defence is one of the most important aspects that need addressing.

Steidten has already tried to fix the problem by searching in South America, though a deal with Flamengo’s Fabricio Bruno fell through at the final moment, which was greeted by a lot of frustration.
While missing out on Tah is not ideal, there will be several more chances to find a suitable defender in the summer transfer market, especially with the window yet to open.
