Barcelona offer Clement Lenglet to West Ham United with new transfer lined up

Barcelona have offered West Ham United the chance to sign Clement Lenglet in a cut-price transfer, according to CaughtOffside.

Writing on their website (30 June), the news outlet reports that the Catalan club are happy to move the France international on after loaning him to Tottenham and Aston Villa in the last two campaigns.

Barcelona are desperate to get his £150,000 per-week wages off the books and with Julen Lopetegui keen to strengthen the defence at the London Stadium, they believe a deal with the Hammers could be made.

West Ham United to sign Clement Lenglet?

West Ham want to bring in a new central defender, with a bit of a scattergun approach made so far amid links to the likes of Mats Hummels [HITC, 17 June], Max Kilman and Ricardo Calafiori [David Ornstein, 18 June].

But negotiations have been tough to bring in the Wolves skipper, who is the prime target, and it could be time for the Hammers to start looking at alternatives.

Lenglet’s wages could be a problem at the London Stadium, but if he is willing to take a pay cut then it could be a deal that makes a lot of sense considering Nayef Aguerd [Hakim Zhouri, 11 May] and Kurt Zouma’s futures are up in the air.

The Frenchman has Premier League experience and even Champions League experience, and his ability on the ball is likely to see him be able to adapt to the way Lopetegui is going to want to play.

It’s a deal to keep an eye on going forward, but he isn’t the prime target and it may be one the board keep on the back burner until they make a final decision on alternative options.

In other West Ham news, the club have tabled a £21m offer for a Serie A midfielder.
