Atletico Madrid verdict drops on Samu Omorodion transfer after West Ham United table £33m+ bid
Atletico Madrid have no interest in selling Samu Omorodion to West Ham United this summer despite a bid worth in excess of £33million being tabled, according to Matteo Moretto.
Writing in his Substack column (16 June), the journalist reports that the Hammers had a bid rejected earlier this summer and Roma also hold an interest in the young forward who scored eight goals last season.
But despite the interest both Atleti and the player himself aren’t interested in a transfer this summer, with Diego Simeone keen to see what he can offer and the 20-year-old keen to impress the legendary coach.
“Atletico Madrid do not want to sell him, and Samu at the moment does not think about anything other than doing the preseason with Atletico and being noticed by Cholo Simeone,” he said.
“Atletico [think] that he has great potential and that is why they rejected high offers for him.
“West Ham offered almost €40m including variables (£33.8million), and he cost just €6m (£5million) last summer.
“Roma like him, but at the moment it is not viable. I repeat, at the moment Atletico have no intention of selling him. Simeone wants to watch him closely during the preseason.”
West Ham United must move on to new striker targets
A new striker seems almost inevitable at the London Stadium this summer with Danny Ings linked with a move to Southampton [talkSPORT, 28 May] and Michail Antonio linked to the MLS and Saudi Arabia [Athletic, 15 May].
New manager Julen Lopetegui will be keen to put his stamp on the squad and as a Spaniard will have a good idea on the young talent coming through in the country and in their top flight with La Liga.
But while Omorodion is talented and has a high ceiling, splashing in excess of £34million on a player who cost just £5million last year and then scored only eight goals is a bit odd.

The club need to add to their forward line to find a more reliable goalscorer in the number nine position, and Omorodion certainly isn’t that right now.
West Ham must look to move on to new targets and find the right balance of spending big to bring in the talent, but not taking too much of a gamble in a key position.
